Manufacturing on demand can change inventory and material requirements. Environmental results depend on the part, material, energy use, finishing, transport and how long the part remains in service.
What should a comparison include?
Compare equivalent parts that meet the same functional requirements. Record material inputs, process energy, rejected parts, post-processing and delivery for each route. Powder reuse alone does not establish a product’s carbon footprint.
